The short answer
You can learn a breathing style after reaching level 25, bringing the materials named in the trainer’s current dialogue, and completing that trainer’s quest. Slayers 2 launched with eight trainer routes: Serpent, Insect, Flame, Thunder, Stone, Sound, Wind, and Water. Thunder is a strong all-purpose choice, Serpent is convenient for a first unlock, and Insect or Sound works well for players who enjoy quick combo pressure.
Animations should not decide your pick. Look at range, start-up, recovery, and the cost of unlocking the style. A kit that dominates a duel can feel awkward while clearing groups, and a broad farming move can be easy for another player to dodge.
Updated for the September 2026 live build. Trainer costs and balance can change, so always treat the requirement panel in your current server as the final check.
Every style at a glance
| Style | Trainer area | Practical identity | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Serpent | Cliff above the starting area | Mobility, knock-ups, barrages | First unlock, mixed play |
| Insect | Butterfly Estate rooftop walkway | Fast chaining and pressure | Combos, mobile play |
| Flame | Rooftop beyond Mistfall bridges | Range, area damage, burn pressure | PvE and groups |
| Thunder | Mountain summit near Bamboo Grove | Fast entries and difficult reactions | PvP and bosses |
| Stone | Temple on the lower mountain route | Hyper armor, counters, heavy control | PvP brawling |
| Sound | High Iceveil Valley cliffs | Projectiles, holds, combo extensions | Team PvE and PvP |
| Wind | Ice platform in the snow region | Cyclones, range variants, displacement | Technical ranged play |
| Water | Underwater room near Bamboo Grove | Sword pressure and flexible strings | Theme builds, fundamentals |
Level 25 is the common gate, but the other costs differ. A trainer can ask for Demon Horns, Beast Cores, Wen, or a weapon tied to the style. Visit the trainer first and read the current prompt before farming. That quick trip can save you from collecting the wrong material after an update.
Prepare before visiting a trainer
Buy Wall Climb and Double Jump from the skill tree before tackling the mountain routes. Thunder waits on a high summit, Sound requires a long climb through Iceveil Valley, and both movement tools make several other trainers much easier to reach. Bring a lantern into the snow region as well, since the cold route can drain your health before you reach Sound.
Demon enemies drop Demon Horns. The cave near the Mother Bear area is a straightforward early loop, while High Demons in Iceveil can give more horns per kill. The appropriate beast-type demons around the Mistfall side of the map drop Beast Cores. Keep all requested materials in your inventory when you speak to the trainer.
A dependable preparation order is:
- Reach level 25 through quests and boss loops.
- Unlock Double Jump and Wall Climb.
- Find the trainer before starting a long material farm.
- Read the current requirement dialogue and collect exactly what it lists.
- Set a nearby spawn if the final trainee fight is far from town.
How the training quest works
Most styles use several of the same physical training minigames. Be ready for meditation timing, cup tracking, push-ups, aim training, and boulder splitting. Some routes change the list. Water includes collecting rocks underwater, while Sound can include strength exercises. A duel with the style’s trainee finishes the quest.
Think of the minigames as separate checkpoints. Group distant tasks into one trip, then set your spawn near the trainee before the duel. It is safer to block the trainee’s entire string and punish the recovery than to trade M1 attacks.
Once the final task is done, press M, open Skill Tree, and inspect the Slayer branch. Finishing training does not hand you the full kit. Spend skill points on the first node, use that technique in fights to raise style mastery, and return to the tree as later mastery thresholds open.
Choose by combat goal
Fast general progression
Favor attacks that clear consistently without a long setup. Thunder has fast moves, Insect chains attacks well, and Flame covers a wide area. Reliable clears matter more than a flashy finisher that leaves you stuck in a long recovery.
PvP
Thunder is difficult to react to, Serpent brings mobility and combo routes, Sound keeps pressure going, and Stone punishes reckless attacks with armor and counters. Pay attention to what you can do after an opponent blocks your opener. A useful PvP build needs a safe reset as much as it needs a long combo.
Bosses and team play
Sound can hold a target for teammates, Flame controls space, and Thunder converts short punish windows quickly. In a group, avoid spending every control move at the same moment. Let one player hold the boss while the others add M1 damage and save their next ability for the boss’s escape.
A reliable style-learning loop
The basic loop is locate, prepare, train, unlock, master. Once your new branch opens, practice each move by itself before attempting a full rotation. Learn its reach, whether it launches or knocks back, and how long it leaves you open after use.
Against an unfamiliar enemy, wait for a committed attack, block it or step outside its range, and test one ability. Add M1 attacks only after the first hit connects. Keep a dash or defensive tool ready so one miss does not cost the fight. The same method works with every style even when an update changes damage values.
Common mistakes
- Using Project Slayers Part 1 costs or locations in Slayers 2.
- Farming a community-posted total without checking the current trainer prompt.
- Climbing to a mountain trainer without Wall Climb or enough health for the cold route.
- Spending every skill point before looking at the mastery-gated breathing branch.
- Rating a style only by its ultimate instead of its repeatable opener and recovery.
When to keep or change a style
One bad boss attempt or PvP loss is not a good reason to replace your style. Work out whether the problem comes from the kit or your execution. If your opener keeps missing because you start too far away, a different style will not repair your spacing. If every rotation leaves you defenseless, shorten it before paying for a reset.
Give the style at least one mastery cycle. Unlock its first few nodes, clear a normal quest group, fight a boss, and try a duel if PvP matters to you. Note the exact part that breaks down. Switching makes sense when the kit still cannot do the job you want after you understand its range and recovery.
| Problem | Fix before rerolling |
|---|---|
| Damage feels low | Build mastery, buy the next node, and confirm full hits |
| Enemies leave the combo | Adjust the launch angle or use knockback as an ender |
| You lose every reset | Save one movement or counter option |
| Farming feels slow | Group smaller packs and use repeatable area attacks |
| PvP opener is predictable | Change the delay, angle, and first action |
A reset is worthwhile when you want a different combat job. Moving from Stone’s heavy counter play to Thunder’s quick entry changes your whole fighting rhythm. Jumping between two similar pressure styles because one moved on a tier list rarely produces an immediate improvement.
Build resources after the unlock
Spend your next resources on making the new style usable. Hold enough skill points for mastery gates, raise health and stamina so a missed move is survivable, and learn nearby spawn points for mastery farming. Matching boss gear is a later upgrade, not something the basic kit needs to function.
Practice range on ordinary enemies before fighting a boss with readable attacks. This shows whether you know the moves without mixing in a rare-drop grind. Once your basic rotation feels stable, farm the matching boss for its weapon, clothing, or ultimate while continuing to build mastery.
FAQ
How many Slayers 2 breathing styles are available?
The live trainer routes cover eight styles: Serpent, Insect, Flame, Thunder, Stone, Sound, Wind, and Water.
What level do I need for a breathing style?
Reach level 25, then check the chosen trainer for its additional material, currency, movement, or weapon requirement.
Can a demon learn a breathing style?
Breathing belongs to the Slayer-side combat route. Demon characters use Blood Demon Arts instead, so choose your faction before investing in the route.
Do I receive every move when training ends?
No. The style branch opens in the Skill Tree, but later moves require skill points and style mastery earned by using the kit.
Which breathing style should a beginner choose?
Serpent has a convenient trainer route, while Thunder offers excellent general strength. Pick the one whose cost and combat rhythm you can sustain.
