Find and unlock Insect Breathing
Reach level 25 and travel to Butterfly Estate. Shinora stands on the raised walkway behind the main building beneath the purple wisteria. Speak to her before farming because the Demon Horn and Beast Core totals have differed between builds.
The September 2026 route has been completed with about 25 Demon Horns and three Beast Cores, but the prompt in your server is the final total. Bring the requested materials, complete the marked exercises, and defeat the Insect Trainee to open the style.
Route to Shinora
Leave Beginner Village on the grassy and stone paths toward Butterfly Estate. Descend into the grounds near the large boulders. Pass the Insect Trainee, walk behind the central mansion, and look up. Shinora is on the upper walkway in front of the wisteria, not at the main entrance.
| Check | What to do |
|---|---|
| Level | Reach 25 |
| Trainer | Find Shinora behind and above the mansion |
| Materials | Read the current prompt for Horn and Core totals |
| Movement | Double Jump helps on the estate ledges |
| Completion | Finish training and defeat the Insect Trainee |
Complete the training
Insect uses the familiar meditation, push-up, aim, cup, and boulder-splitting tasks before the trainee duel. Follow the quest icons instead of returning to Shinora after each one.
Time meditation and push-up inputs to their target zones. During cup training, keep your eyes on one cup for the whole shuffle. Against the trainee, block first and punish the recovery. Trying to race its quick Insect moves with a base sword is less reliable.
After winning, press M, open the Skill Tree, and find the Insect branch. Buy True Flutter with skill points, then use it during normal enemy kills to build mastery for later nodes.
How Insect fights
Insect is a quick pressure style made for short chains. The sequel kit includes True Flutter, Fluttering Sting, Compound Eye Hexagon, Hundred-Legged Zigzag, and Illusory Light. Check the current tree for labels and mastery costs after an update.
Fast attacks and barrages reward a clean opening hit. Begin with M1 or a quick technique, confirm contact, add one extender, and check that the target remains trapped before spending another move.
| Situation | Insect decision |
|---|---|
| Enemy is recovering | Enter with a fast confirm |
| First hit lands | Add M1s and one barrage or extender |
| First hit is blocked | Stop and change angle |
| Target is launched | Reposition before using another skill |
| Combo ends | Save movement for the response |
PvE without overpulling
Quick attacks and barrages make Insect useful in PvE. Pull a small group, keep it in one direction, and finish the first target before widening the fight. Speed will not save you from enemies attacking behind your camera.
Against a boss, wait for a committed animation, leave its hitbox, and answer with a short Insect string. Repeated safe routes build mastery faster than one ambitious combo followed by a knockout and a return trip.
Confirm before the PvP barrage
Repeating the same quick entry tells an opponent when to block. Walk, pause, and change your angle. If the first hit meets guard, leave instead of feeding the rest of the kit into it.
Use barrages after a confirmed hit and keep movement available for the end, especially against Thunder or Serpent. Insect wins through tempo: create an opening, take the damage, and reset before the opponent can answer.
Build and gear priorities
Health, stamina, and movement support repeated short exchanges. A clan bonus can help, but it is not needed to learn Insect. Save skill points for mastery nodes instead of filling every universal branch first.
Learn the Butterfly Estate route rather than depending on a reset. The same landmarks lead to training tasks, later Slayer progression, and Final Selection.
Turn speed into damage
Start with a two-step route: confirm with M1, use one Insect move, then reset safely. Practice from the front, from the side, and after a dodge. Add a barrage only when those entries connect without wild camera movement.
If the target is launched, reposition before attacking again. Pressing a technique toward the old location wastes a cooldown and an opportunity to build mastery. The useful fast decision is sometimes to leave.
Check status effects in the skill card
The Insect theme and move names suggest poison, but verify the actual effect in the current skill card. Look for a status icon, repeated damage tick, or explicit description before building around damage over time.
If a status exists, test whether another application refreshes it, stacks it, or adds nothing. That result determines whether you spread attacks across a group or focus one enemy. Test on ordinary NPCs before changing a boss or PvP build.
Use Butterfly Estate as a hub
Several breathing exercises are around the estate, and nearby landmarks connect to later Slayer progression. Activate any travel point you find and remember the cliff entrance.
When training sends you across the grounds, group tasks by location. Finish meditation, cup work, and nearby physical exercises during one visit before returning toward Shinora or the trainee.
Matchups and team use
Do not race Thunder’s opener. Block or sidestep it, then answer during recovery. Bait Stone’s counter before committing a barrage. Against Flame, leave the broad area attack and return while its animation finishes.
In a party, let Sound or Stone establish control, enter with a quick confirmed chain, and exit before the boss turns. Avoid a launcher that moves the target out of an ally’s attack.
Mastery and skill-point budget
Reserve points for Insect before buying every health or weapon node. Raise mastery on ordinary enemies near a spawn. When the next move opens, practice it by itself before adding it to a full rotation.
