Prepare the route before you transform
Lower your reputation to at least -40, unlock Double Jump and Wall Climb, find Muzan after dark, complete his Dr. Higoshima and nine Spider Lily tasks, then drink Muzan’s Blood. Before the next sunrise, have a concrete plan for sun protection.
Becoming a Demon commits your character to a different build. Blood Demon Arts, Demon Progress, daylight restrictions, and Demon weapons replace Slayer Breathing and Final Selection. Hold onto spins, resets, and rare materials until you have played the path for a while.
Get to -40 reputation
Open Player Info so you can watch the reputation value. Defeat civilians and Slayers; killing other Demons does not advance the transformation requirement. Current launch routes identify -40 as the threshold, with Slayer patrols around Butterfly Estate and human targets in Iceveil Valley as workable farms.
Stick to short rotations instead of attacking everything nearby. Bosses and Demon enemies waste time here because they do not move the reputation counter. Reopen Player Info every few kills and stop once you meet Muzan’s requirement.
| Target | Reputation value | Route use |
|---|---|---|
| Civilian | Low-risk negative reputation | Early preparation |
| Slayer NPC | Faster negative progress | Better once combat is stable |
| Other Demon | No useful transformation progress | Skip for this objective |
Find Muzan and enter his lair
Muzan appears at night. Sweep the current map around Mistfall Harbor, Hidden Mist Village, and Iceveil Valley. Mistfall Harbor is an efficient first check because it is close to the beginner route.
Talk to Muzan and use the Biwa Bell to reach his Lair. The launch prompt charges five evil reputation for a trip, so do not arrive exactly on the threshold if another trip might be needed. Speak to him again inside to receive the transformation tasks.
Complete Dr. Higoshima and collect Spider Lilies
Dr. Higoshima waits on the cliff route near the Thunder trainer. Double Jump and Wall Climb make the trip manageable. Carry him to the marked safe zone and pass the Slayers that spawn along the route. Fighting while carrying him gives you another way to fail the objective.
Collect nine Spider Lilies at night. They glow red and appear around water, swamp routes, Mistfall Harbor, and Bamboo Grove. Circle a lake or waterfall edge rather than running randomly across the entire map. If another player cleared the spawns, change servers or complete a nearby task until the next night.
After turning in the objectives, open the inventory and drink Muzan’s Blood. Confirm the transformation in Player Info → Progression. It should show Demon Progress rather than relying on appearance alone.
Deal with sunlight before normal progression
Daylight can kill an unprotected Demon. Sort out protection before resuming the normal quest route.
| Protection | Launch-period route | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Black Amigasa | Complete MoldySugar’s delivery to Elara, then buy for 10,000 Wen | Accessible, but uses the head slot and currency |
| Classic Straw Hat | Open its guarded chest in Iceveil Valley | Requires stronger travel and combat |
| Kamado clan | Clan passive | Frees the equipment slot but depends on a rare roll |
Read the current item description before spending. A hat is enough to make the route playable, so there is little reason to burn every roll chasing Kamado. Take whichever protection you can obtain reliably.
Pick a Blood Demon Art for your content
Tier lists go stale when balance changes. Test the Art you receive against normal enemies before using a reset, then judge it against the content you actually play:
| Content | Traits that matter |
|---|---|
| Quest farming | Area damage, mobility, short cooldowns |
| Bosses | Sustained damage, tracking, safe punish tools |
| PvP | Pressure, delayed attacks, guard answers, flexible timing |
| Group play | Control, setup, and attacks that do not scatter targets |
A reliable Demon rotation starts with positioning. Use a basic attack, trap, stagger, or control tool to confirm the target, spend damage after the escape is limited, then keep one mobility option for the response. Emptying every cooldown at the start leaves you helpless if the target survives.
Develop one Demon weapon line
Demon weapons include several boss and chest routes. Claws come from a boss near the Mother Bear region, normal Sickles from a mid-level boss, Blood Sickles from Gyutaro, and the Bladed Wagasa from a later boss. Some weapons can interact with specific Blood Demon Arts.
Pick one weapon that supports your Art and usual content. Raise its mastery during quests, then work toward its next useful upgrade. Chasing every listed drop only divides your mastery and farming time.
| Decision | Good reason to farm | Bad reason to farm |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon drop | Completes your active combo or adds needed utility | It is rare and looks impressive |
| Boss | You can clear reliably and stack a quest | It is the hardest available encounter |
| Upgrade material | Required by your selected recipe | It might matter to another build later |
Raise Demon Progress efficiently
Demon Progress is separate from character level and Evil Art mastery. Track all three in Player Info and the skill screens. Pair faction targets with your normal leveling route so every fight advances more than one system.
The efficient loop is:
- Take the best reliable Demon-side quest at your level.
- Equip the Art and weapon you intend to master.
- Prioritize human or Slayer targets when Demon Progress requires them.
- Farm a nearby boss only when its drop supports the build.
- Move to a harder region after your clears remain safe, not merely when its name appears on the map.
Titles and stat-bearing equipment can add meaningful damage or survivability. Equip them normally; vanity mode displays an item without granting its stats.
Decide when a reset is worth it
Spend a reset only when you can name the problem and the replacement. Keep the current Evil Art if it clears quests safely, supports your weapon, and leaves you a defensive answer. Reset when the whole kit clashes with your main content, not because a temporary tier list moved another Art one place higher.
Before spending a reset, test the current kit against three targets: an ordinary group, a boss, and a mobile opponent. Record which move starts a combo, which one controls space, and which one leaves you exposed. If the build fails only because mastery is low or timing is unfamiliar, practice it. If it lacks the range, control, or sustain your chosen content requires even after practice, then reset with a named target in mind.
Plan around the day-night cycle
Before sun protection, split your schedule:
- Night: Muzan, Spider Lilies, Beast Demons, reputation targets, and long outdoor routes.
- Day: safe interiors, menus, skill planning, short protected quests, or other preparation.
- Transition: move toward shelter before daylight instead of starting one more distant objective.
Once protected, keep using night for spawns that require it. Sun immunity removes the damage problem; it does not make night-only NPCs or materials appear during the day.
Common Demon route mistakes
- Reaching -40 reputation without movement skills or spare evil reputation.
- Looking for Muzan during daylight.
- Searching for Spider Lilies outside their night spawn window.
- Drinking Muzan’s Blood without arranging sun protection.
- Rerolling a Blood Demon Art before testing its actual rotation.
- Splitting mastery across several Demon weapons.
- Farming other Demons when the objective requires civilians or Slayers.
